Well here we go folks! Here comes the flock of the newest camera gear as we get closer to Photokina! Nikon drops a new camera to replace the D90? I would think maybe the D300s with a plastic body, with it's new metering system and new 39 autofocus system. I was really never a fan of the Multi-CAM 3500 DX as it was so poor in lower light situations. I could never trust it all, it would just hunt or just never allowed me to focus on a subject! Could the new D300s be better than older sibling D300? With the ‘s’ model in the introduction of video that first came on the D90 finds it way to the D300s. With the new features Video,Slient shutter, and 7fps (up from 6) is this going to be enough to make users switch from D300 to D300s? The Nikon D300 made quite an impact when it was first launched – enough to prompt us to conclude: ‘There’s simply no better semi-professional digital SLR on the market.’ And, in many respects, it is still the camera to beat in that class – nearly two years later and it is still able to command essentially the same price as at launch (though the strong Yen has pushed all prices up). So i thought i would put the Canon 50D vs Nikon D90 in a ISO performance test. Well i just want to say i’m using the beta version of Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 to convert the RAW to Jpeg. But first thing you can notice right away is the color out of the Canon 50D is way better. Colors and contrast seem to be great looking. I did no touch ups at all. These pix are straight out of the camera. Seems like the D90 controls color noise really well and 50D seems to be sharper. But again i didn’t have lots of time to play with either cameras. I really wanted to try out the video function. I can say the Nikon D90 feels pretty good to handle. Its a great size. Live view mode is really easy to get into and recording video is a snap. There is a few things i have noticed so far. Shooting in higher ISO makes the video jumpy. Its not a smooth as if i was shooting in lower ISO ie. 100 or 200. Noise it a bit of issue. Its not terrible but its not great. Seems like any changes you make to shutter or aperture don’t seem to make a difference. But again i’ve only had about max 2hrs with the camera. Maybe i am just missing something in the settings. I’ll have more time over the next few days to play with it more. Also, I really wish i had a chance to try it during the day. Maybe this weekend. But for now enjoy my short video clip.
