Canon 5D MKII Firmware 2.0.7! Looks like the firmwares are just flying out now for the 5D MKII! Here is the newest 2.0.7. fixing a few problems: This firmware update (Version 2.0.7) incorporates the following improvements and fixes. Fixes a phenomenon in which the aperture exhibits abnormal movement when shooting movies in manual exposure mode and Aperture Priority AE (Av mode) using some Canon lenses (such as macro lenses). Fixes a phenomenon in which the exposure level shown in the LCD panel differs from what is shown in the viewfinder when shooting still images in manual exposure mode. Fixes a phenomenon in which the Wireless File Transmitter (WFT-E4 or WFT-E4 II) may not automatically power off when used for FTP transfers. These phenomenon only occur with the Version 2.0.4 and Version 2.0.3 firmware. The Version 2.0.7 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 2.0.4. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 2.0.7, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Download link after the jump! 5D MKII 2.0.7. Firmware Download!

BMW’s Sebring Race Commercial Shot with Canon 5D Mark II Wow can you believe how much Canon’s HD-SLR’s have made a impact in the world of video. BMW using the 5D MKII to shoot there latest commerical for Sebring Race. There was some gear mishap as 5D MKII was lost in the filming of this commercial: Apparently one of BMW’s professional drivers, Dirk Muller, was being too aggressive while following the other M3 and accidentally rammed a Canon 5D Mark II and lens into the rear of the car. The poor camera and lens were splattered all over the Sebring track. Video after the jump! Source[PDNPluse]

Superbowl XLIV Gives Canon 1D MKIV great reviews! Well an article stating that the New Canon 1D MKIV is back on track to being the #1 sports camera according to many NFL professional photographers. With the short comings from the previous Canon 1D MKIII, all the problems have been pretty much resolved in the new MKIV. As i haven’t had a chance to try this camera yet, from what i’ve been hearing this is the best 1D to date. Full article after the jump. Source:[Imaging Resource] The EOS-1D Mark IV is designed to be the multimedia camera of choice for professionals across all photographic disciplines, with a new 45-point autofocus system, a 16-megapixel Canon CMOS sensor, Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors, and 14-bit A/D data conversion, all at up to 10 frames-per-second (fps), with the widest ISO range Canon has produced to date. “Overall, in my opinion, the EOS-1D Mark IV is the best camera Canon has put out so far. I would have no hesitation recommending it,” said Scott Audette, a contract photographer who covered Super Bowl XLIV for Reuters. ***update*** “Hauck summed up his overall impression of the camera while photographing a pinnacle play in the game’s ultimate [...]

Canon 1D MK4 vs Nikon D3s ISO Performance! Well here we go folks, NeutralDay Community has direct comparison between 2 flag ship cameras from the 2 major companies, Canon 1D MK4 vs Nikon D3s! From the pictures you can see that the Nikon is just a better performer in the low light. Nikon has perfected the 12MP range. Seems like the MK4 is pretty noisy from the images that were posted vs D3s, but the 5D MK2 files are better looking than the MK4? This is first comparison i’ve seen so far, i’m sure more are to come! Pix and direct link after the jump! Canon 7D Review The good people over at Imaging Resource have done there full in-depth review of the Canon 7D! Could Canon compete with the King of Prosumer, Nikon’s D300/D300s? Your going to have to click and find out! Review after the jump. Overall, the Canon 7D’s image quality is impressive, as are its printed results. It compares almost evenly to its competition at ISO 1,600, both from Canon and Nikon, but as expected there’s a noticeable difference when we compare this APS-C sensor to its full-frame rivals the Canon 5D and Nikon D3x, both of which earn the extra money their makers charge. Remembering that the Canon 7D costs quite a bit less than these full-frame cameras brings it back into perspective. In the end, the Canon 7D gives you a little more detail than its 15 and 12-megapixel competition, while maintaining impressively low noise, even at the highest ISOs. Canon 5D MKII 1.2.4. Firmware Released!!! Looky here folks looks like Canon has released the newest firmware for the Canon 5D MKII! The 24p that we have been looking for is not to be found at all! All that was included was supports the WFT-E4 II pretty much! Aww! I guess we are going to have to wait longer i guess! Firmware Version 1.2.4 incorporates the following improvements and fixes. 1. Supports the WFT-E4 II wireless file transmitter that was released in December 2009. 2. Corrects a phenomenon in which visible noise may appear in images taken by continuous Bulb shooting. Firmware Version 1.2.4 is for cameras with firmware up to version 1.1.0. If the camera’s firmware is already version 1.2.4, it is not necessary to update the firmware. In addition, after the firmware is updated, if the WFT-E4 or WFT-E4 II wireless file transmitter is used with the camera, the indications that appear under [Communication mode] on the [WFT settings] menu are changed as follows: * FTP -> FTP trans * PTP(PC) -> EOSUtility * HTTP -> WFTserver * HTTP account -> WFT account If you are setting the WFT-E2 II by using a computer, please download and use [...]

Another pre 1D MKIV video Dan Chung borrowed a pre 1D MKIV from Canon Singapore. Dan took the MKIV to horse races, shot the video in 720p 60fps and used Final Cut Pro to edit. From the 60fps down to 24fps using cinema tools and no ungraded was use. This video looks great! Can’t wait for this camera too arrive! Video after the jump! Canon 1DmkIV at the races – test shoot from Dan Chung on Vimeo.

Leica X1 Preview! Seems like today more and more people are wanting more from a pocket sized cameras. Leica is working hard to bring this to the masses. The Leica X1 has a good platform to start on: * Compact lightweight body with analogue-style control dials * Fixed 24mm F2.8 lens (angle of view equivalent to 35mm lens on full frame) * Program, Shutter priority, Aperture priority, Manual exposure modes * Full range of manual controls * 12.2 Mp APS-C CMOS sensor * ISO 100-3200 * DNG raw format recording The mere mention of the name ‘Leica’ causes certain photographers’ hearts to beat just a little bit faster; this sole survivor of the once-mighty German camera industry is one of the very few genuine ‘heritage’ brands left. The company’s long-running reputation for sheer engineering quality and optically-superb lenses is legendary – many a budding snapper has aspired to own a ‘real’ Leica, eventually. Unfortunately though, this quality is (inevitably) accompanied by heart-stopping prices, meaning such aspirations are often left unfulfilled for many years. – DPreview Click the image above for full preview.

Canon 7D Double Trouble??? The word on the street that there is problem with Canon’s 7D where it will show during burst mode it will show the preceding frame. I have not seen this myself when shooting with the 7D, but i have not done alot of shooting with this camera. Phenomenon In images captured by continuous shooting, and under certain conditions, barely noticeable traces of the immediately preceding frame may be visible. This phenomenon is not noticeable in an image with optimal exposure. The phenomenon may become more noticeable if a retouching process such as level compensation is applied to emphasize the image.
