Nikon Releases 24mm f1.4 and 16-35mm f4 VR! I think this is a bit better release than Canon had today, with the Rebel. Nikon brings out 2 new lenses that could really bit into the Canon camp. I’m sure that the 16-35mm f4 VR is better than the Canon offering, and 24mm f1.4 well hard to say until reviews are out for this lens. None the less though new lenses are great! Pix and specs after the jump!

Leica X1 Preview! Seems like today more and more people are wanting more from a pocket sized cameras. Leica is working hard to bring this to the masses. The Leica X1 has a good platform to start on: * Compact lightweight body with analogue-style control dials * Fixed 24mm F2.8 lens (angle of view equivalent to 35mm lens on full frame) * Program, Shutter priority, Aperture priority, Manual exposure modes * Full range of manual controls * 12.2 Mp APS-C CMOS sensor * ISO 100-3200 * DNG raw format recording The mere mention of the name ‘Leica’ causes certain photographers’ hearts to beat just a little bit faster; this sole survivor of the once-mighty German camera industry is one of the very few genuine ‘heritage’ brands left. The company’s long-running reputation for sheer engineering quality and optically-superb lenses is legendary – many a budding snapper has aspired to own a ‘real’ Leica, eventually. Unfortunately though, this quality is (inevitably) accompanied by heart-stopping prices, meaning such aspirations are often left unfulfilled for many years. – DPreview Click the image above for full preview.

Canon announces new tilt-shift! 17mm F4 and 24mm F3.5 II! Well the rumors were true there was a new Canon Tilt-Shift! Not only was the 24mm f3.5 replaced with the MKII…A new 17mm f4 was announced too! The new 17mm f4 looks like it would be a great lens for some landscapes! Just look at that piece of glass! Can’t wait too see some images from the 17mm. Amstelveen, the Netherlands, 18 February, 2009: Canon today announces the launch of two new tilt and shift lenses, the Ultra-Wide angle TS-E 17mm f/4L and the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, an upgrade to the popular TS-E 24mm f/3.5L. Canon was the first company to offer 35mm camera users a combined tilt and shift lens, With 36 years experience in this field, Canon has now added a new unique functionality to the TS-E 17mm f/4L and TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, allowing users to rotate the direction of the tilt and shift independently of each other. This affords greater control over the focal plane, replicating the movements of a large format view camera. Canon’s revolutionary tilt and shift revolving mechanism is particularly useful when shooting product shots from a perspective where specific framing and [...]

Two high-precision GMo aspheric lenses are employed to correct various forms of aberration such as curvature of field and distortion, with a floating mechanism ensuring crisp corner-to-corner detail throughout the focal range. In addition, two UD lenses reduce the chromatic aberration common in wide-angle lenses. A fast, ultra-large maximum aperture of f/1.4 delivers excellent low-light performance, with the circular aperture offering the potential for creative out-of-focus highlights. A focal length of 24mm and a USM focus motor providing full-time manual focus also make the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM ideal for situations where a wide-angle, high-performance lens is required.
